Allan Heinberg and Olivier Coipel on Uncanny X-Men #526 Backup

Uncanny X-Men #526 – Avengers: Children’s Crusade Tie-in

Young Avengers’ Writer & Super star Artist Bridge the Gap Between X-Men and Young Avengers

Marvel.com: Allan Heinberg and Olivier Coipel play in the x-sandbox! If the fallout from “Second Coming” wasn’t enough to make you buy Uncanny X-Men #526, then how about a bonus story by two of the best talents in the industry? Allan Heinberg may be the busiest man in the world, splitting his time between television (“Grey’s Anatomy”) and comics (Avengers: Children’s Crusade, Young Avengers) but he couldn’t pass up an opportunity to write Cyclops, Magneto and Wolverine.

What does Magneto learn that sends him down a path that the rest of the world would rather he just stay away? And what does it mean to his relationship with the X-Men? Oh, and did we mention that the artist of Marvel’s Siege event was drawing it? Olivier Coipel’s first sequential work since illustrating the Sentry’s death and the new formation of the Avengers is in Uncanny #526. Don’t miss it!

So this looks like the set up for the cliffhanger in the latest issue of Avengers: Children Crusade. I sort of wished that Heinberg did a backup every month the title didn’t ship (Children’s Crusade is bimonthly) to keep the momentum going but I guess that is too much to ask for from him. I really do think Children’s Crusade will suffer from being bi-monthly. I mean seriously, 18 months to tell a 9 part story is all kinds of crazy.

The Young Avengers return in an epic, bi-monthly Marvel maxi-series by series creators Allan Heinberg and Jim Cheung. When Wiccan’s reality-altering powers begin to rival those of the Scarlet Witch, the young hero sets out on a quest to find her that spans the Marvel Universe and pits Wiccan against both the Avengers and the Young Avengers. But will Wiccan’s desire to solve the mystery of his parentage be his salvation or his undoing? This self-contained Marvel maxi-series reintroduces and redefines the Young Avengers and the Scarlet Witch for the Heroic Age and is essential reading for any Avengers fan.

Avengers: The Children’s Crusade

The Young Avengers Return in 8-Issue Mini Series in July 2010

Avengers: Children's Crusade

Allan Heinberg appeared on video to announce “Avengers: The Children’s Crusade” – the follow up to “Young Avengers” by the entire original creative team including artist Jimmy Cheung. The bi-monthly, nine-issue limited series has seen six issues written already, and Heinberg promised that a cataclysmic event involving Wiccan forces him to find the Scarlet Witch and try to redeem her. He will find her, and the series will not only include the full cast of the Young Avengers as well as all the other Avengers teams from the A-Vengers to the New Avenges but members of the mutant community. The story will build on plot threads from “House of M” on through today, and the writer was excited to present new, unseen interactions between characters.

Marvel Comics: Age of Heroes – Young Masters of Evil Return

Age of Heroes: Young Masters

Age of Heroes: Young Masters

So Marvel bring back the Young Masters (all of which I hate except for Enchantress and Egghead) and still no sign of Young Avengers in Marvels Heroic Age? I feel rejected and unloved especially after see this…Avengers Academy #1

Whatever Happened to the Heroes of Tomorrow?

I love young comic superheroes (sidekicks) – especially the Marvel variety. They always did and said things I would’ve if I lived in a world of Thors and Capatin Americas. I’m particularly a fan of the Young Avengers. They were Marvel answer to DC’s recently relaunched Teen Titans title. However, these weren’t your daddy’s sidekicks. They were aliens, they were legacies, they were drug addicts, they were gay – they fascinated me.  Fast forward, 12 issues and three minis – where are they and why is Marvel expecting me to give a shit about their newest new team of teen characters?

Young Allies

Young Allies? Moar like Early Cancellation. AMIRITE?

I mean honestly I have no interest these Young Allies. I mean sure I like them all fine separately (especially Arana and Gravity) these character seem like they are suppose to be new New Warriors (they can’t use the name yet because of that terrible depowered mutant comics they published with the title). For me the New Warriors are like the Titans – in their twenties trying to forge their own destinies.

I mean it’s nice that McKeever is getting a chance to write Gravity again but whatever happened to him being resurrected with the power cosmic? And doesn’t Firestar have vagina cancer? Shouldn’t Bucky or Nomad or whatever her Counter-Earth ass is calling herself now be trying to get home?  And who the fuck is this random guy in the back?

Oh hey Tempest!

Oh hey Tempest!

I think my biggest fear is Marvel is doing the wrong thing yet again with their sidekicks – first they refuse to publish more Young Avenger comics because the creator is too busy writing episode of Grey’s Anatomy (which is a terrible show), then they banish the Runaways to Cancelled-ville, create the Avengers Initiative (which had promise but slowly declined) and the Secret Warriors (which is actually very good) and now they not only gives us another “Young” title but they also give us an “Avengers” Academy title.

If you can’t tell by now, I’m not amused with the mistreatment of the Young Avengers franchise. It was a great title with extremely developed characters and in their place we get c-listers and noobs.

I hatechu new Marvel kids. Go far, far away. NAO!

Freedom Force – Young Avengers Wiccan and Hulkling

wiccan_hulkling

Here are two of my favorite characters right now. It is weird but they have pretty much replace Apollo and Midnighter as my favorite gay comic couple.

Hulkling Preview

So I’m almost done with Hulkling. Even though the previous version had wings, I don’t think this one will because they wont be animated. I’m going to try a few keyframe tricks but I’m probably not going to get the effect I want. 😦

Freedom Force – Young Avenger Wiccan

wiiccan

I completed Wiccan last night actually but I just got around to posting him now. I’m moving on to Hulkling before I finish up the Asgardian look. I am flirting with skinning all of the Young Avengers with the rest of the HeroForce guys but I am probably going to be focusing my energies towards my full-time job and freelancing soon.

Asgardian (Work in Progress)

asgardian_new

I really like the way this is coming together. The extras are actually from my old Asgardian skin for Tommyboy’s mesh.  I really want to finish Wiccan, Asgardian, and Druid by the weekend so I can start working on Hulkling (both costumes).

Wiccan and Druid (Work in Progress)

wiccan_druid

So I’ve started updated my Young Avengers skins and I came up with this idea of alternate versions of them. Basically I was really upset with the Dark Reign: Young Avengers cast and decided to make my own Young Masters of Evil. So here we have Wiccan on the left and Druid on the right. Druid is the child of obscure Captain American villain Dremund Druid. I’m thinking about Druid not really using direct magic (because Dremund Druid doesn’t really) but would use alchemy formulas and summoned minions from Limbo.

Oh and I have this half-Dire Wraith, half-Xandarian Red Hulkling guy. Despite what I think of Loeb’s writing I really like the look of Red Hulk. I have a few others too – a white Vision/Adaptoid, Nomad (Julia Winters), Trickshot’s apprentice, Rush or Momentum (Whizzer’s granddaughter/Nuklo’s kid). The last character is the one I’m most excited about. I really want to do something different with the whole super-speed thing where she actually slows time (like Ambrose Chase from Planetary) instead. Now all I have to do is start designing them…

Anywho, I’ll probably be finishing up Wiccan and Druid as soon as I finish cleaning out the old apartment. I might even do all of the Young Avengers…who knows.
