Secret Avengers Promo #2 – Marvel Comics Heroic Age

Is the Scarlet Witch a Secret Avenger?

I am a Secret Avenger - Scarlet Witch?

I am a Secret Avenger - Scarlet Witch?

Marvel, has released their second teaser image for their “Secret Avengers” title set to debut in the aftermath of their current “Siege” event. Yesterday’s tease set Avengers fandom abuzz, with guesses ranging from Spider-Man to Beat to Black Panther and beyond.
Today’s image, featuring the silhouette of a character clad in what appears to be a cape is accompanied by the text “I strive for redemption,” should prove to be no less intriguing to fans attempting to figure out the team’s line-up before it’s announced.

AfghanAnt’s Guess: The Scarlet Witch. We know she’s hanging out in the middle of Europe with an reanimted Agatha Harkness. Wouldn’t this be the perfect chance for the long-time Avengers Scarlet Witch to redeem herself. It makes even more sense that it would be her because of all the trouble she caused publicly. She would be forced to work in secret now.

Luke Cage Leads Thunderbolts in Marvel’s new Heroic Age

Super-powered Black Man Survives God-massacring Siege Event, Get Demoted

Why they had to demote a brother?

Luke Cage leads the even newer Thunderbolts

I’m a little annoyed that Captain America’s second-in-command and defacto leader New Avengers is now leading a team of super-villains and c-list superheroes (Man-Thing? Are you fucking serious?).  I like Jeff Parker ok but why did this ushering in for the Heroic Age mean a demotion for one of the best Avengers members in years.  Also fucking you Bendis! You tell the world how you would be gay for Luke Cage if he were real and even marry him to your Alias creation, Jessica Jones, and you not only kick him off your team book but you fail to ad even one person of an vaguely ethnic background to your team? Fuck! Even Grant Morrison’s original ubermensch JLA lineup had a half-Mexican ( Kyle Rayner) and a fucking green martian.  I’m actually really disappoint Luke Cage isn’t even a Secret Avenger. I had hope that he and Jessica would be the modern age Hank and Janet (minus the wife-beater and killer robot children).

URGH! First Lil’ Wayne goes to jail now this? Today is a terrible day to be Black in American. What’s next, Obama gonna get assassinated? America, I’m done!

P.S. I know I’m being dramatic and I don’t care this is my blog and I am not particularly happy with Marvel or DC for the way they treat their ethnic characters. It seems like ethnic characters and women are either demoted, depowered, or fridged.

Know Your Heroic Age Avengers: Hawkeye

I am an (Heroic Age) Avenger…Hawkeye

Hawkeye - Heroic Age Avenger

Hawkeye - Heroic Age Avenger

Orphaned at an early age, Clint Barton was sent to a children’s home with his brother Bernard. Running away to join a traveling circus, the pair worked as roustabouts. While a member of the circus, Clint was trained by the original Swordsman and by Trick Shot. Witnessing Iron Man in action, Barton attempted to emulate him by donning a colorful costume and employing his archery skills to fight crime. However, during his first public appearance, Hawkeye was mistaken for a thief by police and found himself actually fighting Iron Man.

Soon, the Black Widow enlisted him as her partner. Although he became romantically involved with her, he was unhappy being a criminal. When he approached the Avengers and told them of his desire to reform, Iron Man sponsored his membership on the team.

Hawkeye was an active member of the Avengers for years, with his archery skills and inventive trick arrows augmenting the superhuman powers of his associates. His carefree and rebellious personality meant that he sometimes argued with Captain America, but their teamwork never faltered when faced by outside threats. For a short time, Barton abandoned his Hawkeye identity, and taking Hank Pym’s growth serum, operated under the name Goliath. He resumed his Hawkeye identity after briefly being the Golden Archer soon after. He has taken several extended leaves of absence from the Avengers, trying to establish a career for himself outside of the group.

Know Your Heroic Age Avengers: Thor

I am an (Heroic Age) Avenger…Thor

Thor Odinson

Thor - Heroic Age Avengers

Ages ago, Odin, lord of the gods of Asgard, desired a child of both Asgard and Midgard (Earth), and therefore sought out and wooed Gaea, the eldest goddess of the Earth. Gaea gave birth to Thor in a small cave in Norway, and Odin took him to be raised in Asgard by his wife, Frigga.

The young Thor grew up alongside his step-brother Loki, who was always jealous of Thor, the favored son. Thor excelled in power and popularity, and on his eighth birthday, Odin had the hammer Mjolnir created, enchanting it with powerful magic. He decreed that Mjolnir would be presented to Thor when he had been proven a worthy warrior, and Thor spent the next several years training and performing heroic deeds. Indeed, eight years later, Odin gave the hammer to Thor, declaring him to be the greatest warrior in Asgard.

Thor traveled to Earth for the first time in the Ninth Century A.D., in response to his worship among the Vikings. Thor reveled in his worship, leading many in battle and extolling the way of the warrior. Years later, a set of Vikings killed innocent inhabitants of a Christian monastery in Thor’s name. In shock and disillusion, Thor cut himself off from his worshippers and returned to Asgard. The Asgardian religion would never be as fervent, eventually dying out completely over the centuries.

Know Your Heroic Age Avengers: Captain America

I am an (Heroic Age) Avenger…Captain America

Captain America

Captain America - Heroic Age Avengers

As a young boy, James Buchanan Barnes lost his father (a soldier during WWII), and was adopted by Camp Lehigh as their mascot, and given the nickname “Bucky”. It was here that he learned the identity of Captain America. He underwent rigorous training and was assigned to be Cap’s sidekick, accompanying him on many adventures, and the two often worked with the original Invaders. However, on a final mission against Baron Zemo, Bucky and Cap hopped on an experimental drone plane in an attempt to disarm a bomb. The bomb detonated, dropping Cap in the North Atlantic, where he would later be found and thawed out by the Avengers. American forces never found Bucky’s body, and he was presumed dead. Unbeknownst to the Americans, he was found and revived by Russian General Vasily Karpov.
When Bucky awoke, he had no memory of his identity, which gave Karpov an opportunity to reprogram Bucky as a Soviet assassin called the Winter Soldier. He was sent all across the globe, committing political assassinations with huge effects on the Cold War. However, his memory implantation caused mental instability, and he was kept in stasis between missions to prevent rebellion.

Recently, the Winter Soldier killed the Red Skull, and stole his Cosmic Cube for Karpov’s successor, former General Aleksander Lukin. In order to mess with Cap’s mind, Lukin also commanded the Winter Soldier to kill Jack Monroe and launch a major terrorist attack on the city of Philadelphia, fueling the Cosmic Cube’s power in the process. However, when the Winter Soldier kidnapped S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Sharon Carter, she told Captain America upon her rescue that she believed her captor to be Bucky. Later, Nick Fury confirmed to Cap that the Winter Soldier was indeed his former partner.

Marvel Comics – The Heroic Age Preview

Marvel Comics – The Heroic Age

The Heroic Age: Marvel Comics

The Heroic Age: Marvel Comics

The “Branding New Day” of the Marvel Comics had finally arrived with the dawn of The Heroic Age. Marvel Comics Editor-in-Chief Joe Quesada said:
“heroes will be heroes again” featuring “a throwback to the early days of the Marvel Universe, with more of a swashbuckling feel.”
AfghanAnt’s Thoughts:
I’m excited but worried. Marvel has always been the universe were realistic stories and movtives were written. So knowing this this return to status quo is sort of bothersome.
The one thing I am enjoying is Clint Barton as Hawkeye (what is Kate Bishop going to call herself now?) and Bucky still as Captain America. I never liked Captain America as a concept until Buckey. He brought something fresh and new to the table that Steve in all his WWII awesomeness lacked. I’m also excited about the new Avengers line-up. I know that Captain America, Thor and Iron-Man will be on the team but who else? Ms Marvel? Beast? Black Widow?
On a graphical note, how tacky does that “Heroic Age” banner look. This whole image looked rushed with the exception of Jim Cheung’s pencils.
