AfghanAnt’s Thoughts on the Uncanny X-Force

Uncanny X-Force #1

Uncanny X-Force #1

I have never been a fan of X-Force. I’ve enjoyed the art but I always thought it was ultra-violent for the sake of being ultra-violent. I also never understood why Cyclops, of all people, would assemble a team of killers to defend the mutant race. It just always seemed against the X-Men code. Anyway, I’m excited to see Psylocke and Archangel on the same team again. Hopefully we’ll see some romantic connection amongst the murdering.

We all knew Wolverine was going to stay on the team. He’s practically the leader but I’m confused why two non-mutants are on the team. Fantomex is a super-sentinel and Deadpool is a mutate.

In fact, Psylocke shouldn’t be considered a mutant (well I guess he Asian body is actually a mutant) but originally Betsy Braddock was half-human, half-Otherworlder like her brothers Brian Braddock (Captain Britain) and Jamie Braddock.

If you know anything about me, you know I loved Morrison’s X-Men run, so seeing Fantomex back is really excited but I’m not digging this weird black and white costume he’s wearing and I’m really not digging Deadpool’s either. Let’s hope they aren’t colored like this in the actual comic.

Comic Solicitations for December 2009

Yes there are lot of more comics coming out in Dec 2009 but these are the ones I’m buyin – also who else is extremely excited that shaman Nate Grey has returned to Marvel Universe? Now if only they would make Adam-X the new rule of the Sh’iar Empire my faith in comics would be restored.

Uncanny X-Men 510 – Psylocke’s Back

So if you remember my other post on Psylocke’s returns, you’d know I’ve wanted Psylocke British (even though she is looking a little Asian in this preview) and back in her Australian era armor and it looks like I got my wish. I’m really hoping Uncanny X-Men # 510 is a lot better than the proceeding issues because they have been slow and greatly lacking the presence of the person who is on the cover. Fraction do not let me down anymore than you already have. Please…

Urgh also it looks like Claremont is going to continue to abuse Psylocke (and all the other X-Women) in X-Men: Forever. Here it is in his own words from a CBR:

“I assume Betsy’s on her way back to Mainstream Marvel and a reunion with Brian and the rest of the X-Canon. My own vision of the character, I’ll be carrying on in X-Men: Forever, which will debut in roughly a couple of months (mid-June, with an issue seeing print every fortnight.) I hope you enjoy it.”

Why the hell does Marvel keep him on the payroll? His titles do not sale and relaunching his failed Exiles title as X-Men Forever is not going to make it a top seller.

Uncanny X-Men 510 – Psylocke Returns

Currently in Uncanny X-Men 508, the X-Men’s veteran ass-kicking psychic ninja, Psylocke, returned. However there was a few twist, she was returned to her natural body by the Sisterhood of (Boring) Mutants. While Spiral being involved makes sense, I question why the former Mrs. Scott Summers, Maddie Pryor, would bother resurrecting Kwannon’s dead body and putting Betsy back into it. What makes this even more confusing is Psylocke is depicted in her Asian form on future covers of Uncanny X-Men.
