Wendell Vaughn (Quasar I)

You know what sells comic books? Evil version of good guys.  Just Kang-travel back in time to the distant year of 2000 and ask Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely.That is exactly how I feel about the evil assembling in the next Marvel cosmic event – Realm of Kings.

It looks like  JLA: Earth 2 with the Avengers . It is already a damn ashame that Marvel is  swagger jacking Blackest Night with their Nercosha (don’t that sound like a ghetto baby name, ya’ll?), but they are also stealing old concepts and sell them as being new? Don’t get me wrong I have no problem with recycling – I just don’t think this is going to be very good. I can only hope these Evil Avengers come from the same universe as Noh-Varr and he’ll actually have something to do. I swear since they inserted him into 616, Noh hasn’t done shit but terrorize children, stand in the background as a Dark Avengers, and occasionally be compared to Captain Marvel. So much potential wasted.

You know what else we get out of this Realm of Kings event? The original Quasar. Though he’s been back since before War of Kings started. I have to say I’m indifferent to him being back because I liked Phyla-Vell better as Quasar.

Phyla-Vell (Quasar III)

Phyla-Vell was so full of win. She was this retro-fitted  sister of former Captain Marvel, Genis-Vell, and was Mar-Vell’s gay kid before being his gay kid was cool - Hulkling. I especially loved when she became this modern day Joan of Arc with Ms Wendy Vaughn being her inner crazy.

Oh and bitch knew how to fucking dress. Just take a look at her Quasar costume and compare it to that mess Ms Wendy wore – FIERCE.  Throw in a lesbian girlfriend who turns into a fucking dragon and you have the making of an amazingly unique character for the modern age (can you imagine all the bestiality fanfic that was written?).

Too bad all of that was stolen from her before she could even mature into – now she’s the fucking Avatar of Death, Martyr. While her chose in clothing is still fierce, Phyla-Vell has become an angry black man (Deathurge). Instead of trying to reason with people and struggling with her title as Protector of the Universe, she’s threatening to cut a bitch every other sentence and when she’s not doing that she’s kidnapping white women.

I can only hope she and Ms. Wendy come to blows because at least she’s got that whole immunity to quantum energy like her predecessor did and the fact that you can’t kill death- that’s something, right?
